![]() How do I empty a large part of this "used data" or designated "other volumes"? I attach a screen sot of both Snapshot and Data graphs from my Disk Utility. In using the Disk Utility and examining my main internal drive, MacIntosh, I note that the drive has a drive shown as McIntosh HD which is broken into two entries, "APFS System Snapshot" which shows a large part of the drive used for the storage of "other volumes" and a second entry for a drive called MacIntosh HD Data which shows a large part of the usage of the drive as "used". In researching the APFS disk operations, I have come upon the concept of "Snapshots". Unfortunately, the info on the internal drive did not change significantly though the Dropbox folder was around 700 GB. I appeared to move the Dropbox folder to the external drive, and it eliminated the Dropbox folder from the main internal drive. I did this, following the procedures of the Dropbox app preferences. I had a large folder for Dropbox which I wanted to move to an external drive, thinking it would open a large amount of the data on the internal drive. My main internal drive is filling up on my iMac. Any ideas what this possibly could be? And better yet how to fix it. I saw one post in this forum (2018) that was pretty close to the same problem and their solution was to erase and restore from time machine. The only thing I’ve seen to resolve this is the nuclear option of erasing the drive and reinstalling everything from either time machine back up or manually. I know there are hidden files so there probably is maybe 10 to 15 GB not accounted for, but not double what’s shown in the directories in Finder. This end up migrating over to the new Mac mini and I’d really like to free this space up. But if you look at the disk storage used, it’s about 300 GB, which leaves around 200 GB used by something. All the files in the 5 main folders on the drive add up to roughly 100 GB. The screen capture from the original iMac shows the issue. In a nutshell I seem to have around 200GB of storage taken up by something that I can’t locate. Migration went fine with Migration Assistant, however, I uncovered a problem that I’ve now been researching for several days, including one call to Apple Support. Con #1).200GB of “Hidden” Files I just completed migrating my wife’s old iMac to a new M1 Mac Mini. The app has hung several times when I’ve tried to transfer a large number of images (> 1,000) at once. I’ve tried at least a half-dozen metadata date fields, and nothing comes close to the phone’s sort order. There doesn’t seem to be a way to mirror the sort order of the images on my phone once they get to my PC. The UI is convenient, and I can tell a lot of thought went into it.Ĭons: 1.
